Invisible Pressed Setting Powder – hit or miss? | The Aimee Effect

When it comes to setting my under eye, I always use my trusty Laura Mercia Translucent Loose Setting Powder, I’ve never loved a powder so much, it prevents creasing, is great to bake with and leaves no flashback.

I came to the end of my pot a few weeks ago but when I went to buy some more they had none in stock!! I didn’t leave empty handed though, the lady on the counter recommended that I tried the Invisible Pressed Setting Powder which was the same price as the other powder.

The Invisible Pressed Setting Powder claims to set makeup for prolonged wear whilst diminishing the look of fine lines and imperfections. It is created for all skin types and skin tones and has special light reflecting satin-spherical particles that create a soft focus effect.

The powder does create a soft focus and fees very smooth and luxurious on the skin, you only need a small amount however, the only down side I have to this product is that it does give flashback. I used this product on my under eye when I went on a night out and on pictures it is very visible. The woman at the counter did mention about the flashback but I thought I would try it anyway and give it a chance.

I wouldn’t personally use this on my under eye again, but what I am going to do is keep this powder as a handbag essential, for those days when I’m a little extra oily in places like my t-zone and cheeks.

All in all, a good product for keeping in your handbag for when you get them oily moments throughout the day but not great for setting under the eyes! Laura Mercia Translucent Loose Setting Powder you win every time ❤️

Holy Grail Foundation | The Aimee Effect

There are hundreds of foundations on the market for us makeup junkies and everybody has their own personal preference. I have many foundations that I use but my go to has got to be the Estée Lauder Double Wear.

This foundation claims to be long-wearing, keeps makeup looking fresh and natural through heat humidity and activity, a lightweight comfortable foundation, doesn’t change colour or smudge and come off on your clothes.

All of the above I do agree with, the only point I feel a little differently on is the foundation coming off on clothing, maybe it’s because I don’t tend to set my whole face with powder but it does transfer onto my clothes ever so slightly.

The coverage of this foundation is one of the best, it’s a medium to full coverage and gives a flawless finish, the foundation is the only makeup product I use from Estée Lauder however I would like to try the matching concealer at some point also.

For 30ml of this product it will cost you £33.50 which I know for some people can be pricey, I do think it is an expensive foundation but it is 100% worth it for me and my skin.

Take the day off review | The Aimee Effect

I used to be one of those girls that always takes her makeup off before bed and always cleansed my skin. Just lately I’ve been getting so lazy, just using a wipe to take off my entire face of makeup or just leaving it on and topping it up in the morning. I KNOW….I know that this is so so so bad for my skin and I did see a change in the way my skin felt and looked, I just couldn’t be bothered to take care of my skin.

As a beauty blogger, I do like to try out different brands and products and I am very late onto the bandwagon with this one but I’ve tried it eventually and I love it.

Clinique take the day off cleansing balm has got to be up there with my favourites, I’ve been using the balm every night for about a week now and I am noticing a huge difference in my skin. From always being a very oily person and I mean oil that I couldn’t seem to control, I’m not saying that this product is a miracle in a tub but my skin is no where near as oily as what it used to be.

The product itself is like a hard oil (a little bit like coconut oil) and you only need a small amount. Be sure to wet your face first, then what I like to do is take a little of the product out with my index finger and rub into my hands, I then box press onto my face and work the product in. To take it off I just simply use a baby’s sponge and warm water. I don’t know if you’re supposed to use this on your eyes as well but I have been using this as a eye makeup remover and it works wonders, no stingy eyes which a lot of products do tend to do. I then follow this with my normal cleanse and moisturise.

The balm retails at £24 which I don’t personally think is too pricy for a product so good. I cannot recommend this enough! I will not be turning back now I’ve tried it and it will be forever one of my go-to’s

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and lovey new year!

No Miracles, Just Results

When it comes to skincare, I absolutely LOVE trying out different brands and seeing what works well with my skin. I have a combination skin-type, but it is mainly oily, and it can be such a struggle trying to control the oiliness, especially when I’m wearing a full face of makeup.

It is so important that you take care of your skin, your skin is naturally acidic, and therefore you should ideally be cleansing with a cleanser that is more acidic rather than an alkali. Many people use standard bars of soap such as dove to wash their face, this is so harsh on your skin as it is alkali based. When searching for cleansers always do your research!!!

I recently visited the Clarins counter in my local Debenhams as I was after some new skincare to try out. I have used Clarins products in the past however I was a lot younger. The women behind the counter was sooo lovely and helped me select the products most suitable for my skin. She also gave me a few samples to try out which I have fallen in love with and am going to 100% purchase.

Gentle foaming cleanser with cottonseed – Normal / Combination skin-types

As it says on the tin this cleanser is so gentle on the skin yet so powerful at removing all the dirt and grime that is left after I have done my superficial cleanse. A little bit goes a long way and it really does make your face feel squeaky clean. The cleanser retails at £20.00 and definitely one for the collection

Toning lotion with chamomile – Dry / Normal skin-types

Now, with this toner stating it’s suitable for dry skin types I was very apprehensive about trying it especially with my skin being so oily, but as the cleanser did dry out my skin a little, the toner worked wonders and didn’t make my skin feel to greasy which I loved! The toner retails at £21 – £28 and It comes in a standard and luxury size

Lotus face treatment oil – Oily / Combination skin-types

One word, AMAZING. I have never used an oil on my skin due to my excessive oil. However, I have been using a tiny bit of this oil in my hands and patting all over my face including my oily areas before I go to sleep and in the morning I wake up and my skin looks unreal, I never thought an oil would be a good match for me but this stuff is made from the gods on skincare I swear, definitely recommend to anybody! For 30ml of product it would cost you £34

I love hearing what people use for their skincare so please share your own stories with me, I would love to hear them! Don’t forget to press that follow button to keep up to date with my upcoming posts

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of going down to Birmingham for a Christmas masterclass at DIOR with the makeup artist and blogger Tessi Artistry. I had an amazing day meeting her and watching her do her thing on her beautiful model.
I was welcomed by the staff at DIOR and they made sure I felt at home and relaxed. As a blogger, this was my first proper event/masterclass that I have ever been too, so I was extremely nervous as I was there on my own, but I soon started to relax.
Tessi created a full makeup look on her model using the new DIOR Christmas range and I’m not just saying this but all the products she used looked amazing on the model’s skin. Having never used any DIOR makeup products before, I was very intrigued and needed to know more, so after Tessi had finished the look she then took us to the makeup where we could try it on ourselves and get matched by the experts. It was an amazing day and you also got given a goody bag with lots of samplers and miniatures of some DIOR products, one thing that I did purchase myself was the backstage foundation as it looked too good to leave behind.

DIOR BACKSTAGE FACE AND BODY FOUNDATION – when I watched Tessi use this foundation, I was amazed by how natural and flawless it looked on the skin. The product is a medium coverage however is easily buildable to create a higher coverage base. The foundation itself is enriched with beauty-enhancing pigments, it is waterproof and can resist extreme conditions such as workout sessions and a humid environment. The foundation comes in 40 shades and retails at £29.00

DIOR SAUVAGE – Sauvage is one of DIOR’S top selling men’s aftershaves as well as being a personal favourite of my own, it makes a perfect present for dads, brothers and boyfriends and the scent stays put all day. The aftershave comes in 60ml and 100ml and retail from £64.00 – £87.00
DIOR J’ADORE – I have never tried J’adore but again it is one of DIOR’S top selling women’s perfumes. Like Sauvage, J’adore would make a lovely present for somebody. The perfume comes in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml and retail from £54.00 – £110.00
DIOR MISS DIOR – Another one that I haven’t tried but I am so excited for! This perfume is handcrafted and woven with rosewood from French Guiana and pink pepper from Reunion Island for heightened character and is said to leave you lovestruck. The perfume comes in 30ml, 50ml, 100ml and 150ml and retail from £54.00 – £138.00
DIOR CAPTURE YOUTH AGE-DELAY ADVANCED CREME – A face cream infused with Iris Florentina helping to strengthen the skin and fight against the appearance of signs of ageing before they appear. When using this product your skin is said to appear toned, smoothed and reinvigorated. This product is a 50ml tub and retails at £75.00
DIOR CAPTURE TOTALE Multi-Perfection Crème Universal Texture – this crème is said to tone the skin from its deepest layers to its surface. Also, all signs of ageing are instantly corrected with every application. The crème is a luxury product which delivers comfort for all women. A little on the pricey side but an amazing product, the crème comes in one size – 60ml which retails at £130.00
DIORSKIN FOREVER – I haven’t tried the forever skin foundation, but I am excited to see how it will look and feel on my skin. The foundation itself is available in 28 different shades and gives a luminous matte finish. The foundation retails at £35.00
DIOR ROUGE DIOR – this lipstick is so sexy! It makes women feel so good, the shade 999 which I received is DIOR’S classic bold signature red lip and I can’t wait to create some Christmassy looks. The lipstick retails at £29.50 and is a statement piece for any makeup collection
DIOR LIP MAXIMIZER – giving an instant-volume effect, this gloss gives fuller and plumper lips. You can use the gloss on its own, as a primer or as a finishing touch retailing at £26.00

SNI HYDRATING AND NOURISHING HAIR OIL – this hair oil is natural, organic and is not a coating oil like many other hair oils on the market. It is super absorbent therefore had the ability to travel 3 layers deep of the hair shaft. The oil itself is great for slowing down the loss of hair as well as several other factors and comes in 2 sizes, you can get the full 100ml bottle or they do a travel size 30ml bottle. These retail at £28.50 & £17.50

f you ever get chance to be able to go to a masterclass like this then I would recommend, you will have an amazing time and find it so beneficial. I’d love to find out what your favourite DIOR products are if you have tried any, so be sure to leave me a comment and follow me on my Instagram 😊

It’s that simple

Simple skincare is one of the most affordable skin brands out there, it is a British brand and was designed for those with sensitive skin. I have been using Simple for a few weeks in my night time skin routine and I’ve got to say, I am a fan, the products are so affordable, yet they feel so expensive and luxury on the skin. I would recommend Simple for those of you who are students or those who can’t really afford a higher end brand.

So, I have been using the Simple Kind to Skin Eye Make-Up Remover, Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water, Simple Kind to Skin Moisturising Face Wash and the Simple Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser.

Eye Make-up Remover – pretty much self-explanatory, I like to soak 2 cotton wool pads in the remover then press the pads onto my eyes and brows for about 10 seconds then wipe away.

Micellar Cleansing Water – again I soak about 3 cotton wool pads in the product then wipe away any face and neck makeup.

Moisturising Face Wash – I like to fill a bowl with warm water, and soak my sponge I then apply a little bit of the product to my hand and add a little water to lather the product in my hands before massaging into my neck and face, I then get my sponge and squeeze so all of the excess water is drained and take the face wash of my face then blot dry with tissue or pat dry with a towel.

Hydrating Light Moisturiser – once my face has been dried, I then use a small amount of the moisturiser and again massage into my neck and face and let the product absorb into my skin, you can use as much as you want however I don’t like my face to feel greasy hence why I only use a small amount.

I am yet to try the Simple eye creams, and face masks but If any of you have tried them please let me know what you think, I love reading others skin care routines.

Individual Eyelash Extensions

About 2 months ago I decided to get eyelashes extensions. I’ve never had them before, but I wanted to give them a try as I was tired of having to apply strip lashes all of the time. I loved them but they just weren’t for me.

So, the day I had them done I was like wowwww omg I really suit them but my eyes were so irritated and red, I literally had pink eye and it was so sore, I know its normal to get this but It was so painful. They cost me £35 so not too expensive and it took the girl about 2 hours to do.

One thing I did struggle with whilst having my lashes on was eye makeup, I rarely wore eye makeup as I couldn’t do it, I know that if I’d have kept trying I’d have got there in the end but I don’t always have a lot of time to spend on my makeup.

About 2 weeks later they started to shed which is normal as they were getting ready to be infilled but I decided that I wasn’t going to get infills due to the fact that I struggled to do my makeup so I had to go through the pain of them getting sparse and I looked like an absolute muppet by this point but who cares you are who you are!

About 2 weeks after they started to shed, I decided to use baby oil and take them out myself, it was painless and I haven’t ruined any of my real lashes. All in all, I really did love having the extensions but I wouldn’t have them again due to the fact of me struggling with makeup, but if you can do makeup pretty good with these on I am so jealous of you! I would recommend individual lashes to those who cannot wear a lot of makeup at work such as nurses or people who work with food or even if you don’t wear makeup at all, lashes will be perfect for you!
